Description
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall strategic and operational leadership of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care, financial success, regulatory compliance, and a culture of collaboration and excellence. This role works in close partnership with the governing body and a seasoned, capable management team to implement organizational goals and maintain efficient day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute the ASC’s strategic vision and goals in collaboration with the management team and governing body.
Identify growth opportunities and operational enhancements to increase case volume, patient satisfaction, and financial performance.
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and patient-centric care.
Operational Management
Oversee all ASC operations, including clinical services, business office, scheduling, supply chain, and facility management.
Partner with department leaders to streamline workflows and optimize efficiency.
Ensure compliance with state, federal, and accreditation requirements
Financial Oversight
Develop and manage annual budgets in collaboration with the external accounting company.
Monitor revenue cycle performance, cost containment, and profitability metrics.
Analyze operational data and adjust strategies to meet financial targets.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Lead and inspire a high-performing management team, promoting open communication and shared decision-making.
Provide mentorship, professional development, and performance evaluations for direct reports.
Build strong relationships with surgeons, physicians, anesthesia providers, staff, and external partners.
Quality & Compliance
Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Oversee quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) programs.
Ensure readiness for inspections and accreditation surveys.
Stakeholder Communication
Report regularly to the Board of Managers on key performance indicators (KPIs), strategic initiatives, and risk management.
Maintain positive relationships with physician partners, hospital partner, vendors, and the broader community.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Business, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in an ASC, surgical hospital, or healthcare operations.
Proven track record of collaborative leadership within a high-functioning team.
In-depth knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards governing ASCs.
Strong understanding of contracts and contractual arrangements contained in company operating agreements, payer agreements, and service agreements.
Strong financial acumen and understanding of healthcare reimbursement models.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Skills:
Experience leading busy multi-specialty ASCs or physician-owned facilities.
Familiarity with EMR systems and healthcare analytics tools.
Strong understanding of supply chain and staffing models unique to ambulatory surgical environments.
