Supervisor, Medical Laboratory

Overseeing the work of assigned lab personnel. Perform complex test on patient samples using sophisticated equipment; This duty requires advanced knowledge of clinical laboratory instrumentation, testing methodologies, and quality control practices. The employee must possess the technical skills necessary to operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot complex laboratory analyzers and equipment while accurately interpreting test results and identifying analytical issues that may affect patient testing. Support staff members with examining blood, bodily fluids, tissues, and cells; This duty requires comprehensive knowledge of specimen collection, processing, preservation, and testing procedures across multiple laboratory disciplines. The employee must be able to provide technical guidance and training to laboratory personnel, assist with the interpretation of complex laboratory findings, and support the resolution of technical and procedural issues encountered during testing. Establish and maintain quality assurance programs to monitor and ensure the accuracy of test results; This duty requires extensive knowledge of quality management systems, quality assurance principles, proficiency testing, and regulatory compliance standards, including CLIA, CAP, FDA, and other applicable accreditation requirements. The employee must be capable of analyzing quality indicators, conducting root cause analyses, implementing corrective and preventive actions, and developing procedures that support accurate and reliable patient testing. Ensure scheduling and adequate lab coverage during call-outs, weekends, and holidays; This duty requires strong organizational, leadership, and workforce management skills. The employee must be able to assess staffing needs, coordinate work schedules, adjust staffing assignments to meet operational demands, and effectively communicate with personnel to maintain continuous laboratory coverage while ensuring compliance with departmental policies and staffing requirements. May be assigned to work in any area of the core laboratory including but not limited to: Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion, Toxicology, and Molecular Diagnostics. Responsible for evaluations and implementation of new laboratory instruments and tests. Manage requisitions and orders. Ensure laboratory procedures for reporting and documenting results, and the use of laboratory instrumentation is in compliant. All other assigned duties related to the Medical Laboratory. Special Skills: Understands and can articulate correct procedures to accurately identify patients, label specimens, and verify there is adequate sampling for the testing ordered; Good knowledge of test menu and ability to manage requisitions/orders; Demonstrate ability to perform basic functions in the hospital information system; Clear communicator; Speak, read, and write English fluently; Ability to accurately interpret laboratory test results, recognize abnormal or critical values, and communicate findings appropriately to healthcare providers; Knowledge of laboratory regulatory and accreditation standards including CAP, AABB, DNV, and FDA compliance requirements.

Minimum Job Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or academic equivalent in Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory, Medical Technology or related field. MT(ASCP), or MLS (ASCP), or MLT(ASCP) or equivalent. 36 months of Leadership experience as Medical Laboratory Scientist or related occupation in a high complexity testing environment.

Alternative Job Requirements: Associate's Degree or academic equivalent in Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory, Medical Technology or related field.
