Description
The electrochemical generation of hydrogen through electrolysis is a critical part of the renewable energy infrastructure. Electrolysis under alkaline conditions using a solid polymer electrolyte is a pathway to cost-effective hydrogen production. We have developed the highest conductivity solid polymer anion conducting membrane for use in electrolyzers and fuel cells.
This project involves the development of advanced solid-polymer electrolytes and their characterization, and the assembly/characterization of zero-gap electrolysis cells and the electrochemical analysis of their performance. A solid foundation in electrochemistry and electrochemical engineering is required. The research involves the fundamental aspects of electrolyzers and ion conducting polymer electrolytes. Publication and presentation of results will occur. The research is funded by both industry and government sponsors. Ph.D. in chemical sciences or a related field is necessary. The research will take place at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. Please send CV and names of references directly to Professor Paul A. Kohl, kohl@gatech.edu, 404-942-8677.
Requirements
Ph.D. in chemical sciences or equivalent, and experience in electrolyzer/fuel cell materials, construction and analysis.
