With a customer service focus, the Business Consultant Supervisor functions as a first-level supervisor, directing the work of staff engaged in advising and assisting business owners with the business licensing and permitting process, including processing new or existing applications, reviewing changes to existing licenses and permits, and supporting businesses looking to expand operations in the City of Chicago. The supervisor manages the daily activities for up to 6 employees, reviews the work of these employees, and enforces the requirements of the municipal code as well as BACP operational requirements. This is a full-time, in-person position working directly with staff and the public on a daily basis in the BACP Small Business Center at City Hall.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Assigns, coordinates, manages, and monitors the activities of the staff engaged in advising business owners of applicable licenses and permit requirements for new or existing business establishments.
• Reviews and approves work plans developed by staff for completeness and appropriateness, and makes modifications as required.
• Provides technical assistance to staff in resolving problematic cases by identifying resources for atypical and complex service requests.
• Evaluates the work performance of Business Consultant staff and trains or coordinates training.
• Assists in developing and implementing work standards and recommending changes to improve unit efficiency.
• Prepares comprehensive status reports on unit activities.
• Serves as liaison to municipal, state, and federal agencies to troubleshoot sensitive or atypical service requests.
• Provides direct and referral assistance for complex business operations.
• Coordinates with bureau leadership on initiatives and priority implementation of procedures.

Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 8:30 - 4:30

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience
• Eight (8) years of work experience in business planning or consulting, of which two OR
• Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in Business Administration of a directly related field, plus six (6) years of work experience in business planning or consulting OR
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or a directly related field, plus four (4) years of work experience in business planning or consulting OR
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree or higher in Business Administration or a directly related field, plus three (3) years of work experience in business planning or consulting

This position requires applicants to successfully complete an interview which will include a universal assessment.
