Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir
Company Overview
The Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, founded in 1986 by Artistic Director Terrance Kelly, unites more than 500 singers
across two main branches: the flagship Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, and its subsidiary ensembles for Community,
Youth, and Kids; and the Oakland Youth Chorus with four youth ensembles ages elementary through High School
completes our comprehensive music education program. Together, these nine ensembles represent diverse faiths,
races, and cultures, with singers ages 5-101 performing throughout the year from music festivals and international tours,
to inauguration ceremonies and sporting events, to senior centers, schools, and prisons. We come together in
community, guided by our mission to inspire joy and unity through Black gospel and spiritual music traditions.
Company History
Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir (OIGC) is a nationally recognized performing arts and cultural organization known for its artistic excellence, community impact, and cross-cultural collaboration. Founded in 1986, OIGC has performed at major civic and cultural events including Super Bowl 50, the opening of the Chase Center, the California State Capitol Tree Lighting, and San Francisco Pride, and has appeared alongside renowned artists such as Andra Day, Lenny Kravitz, India.Arie, and CeCe Winans. The organization has toured internationally across Europe, Israel, Australia, and Canada, and has been featured in documentary film and broadcast media, including KQED. Widely honored for both artistic and community leadership, OIGC has received numerous awards from regional arts and civic organizations and is celebrated for its long-standing commitment to interfaith unity, youth development, and the preservation and advancement of gospel music traditions.
