About this role

About GMB

GMB is a premier, 85-person multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm headquartered in Salisbury, MD. For decades, we have partnered with municipalities, counties, and private clients across the Delmarva Peninsula and the Western Shore of Maryland to deliver critical infrastructure projects that protect public health and the environment. At our size, you are never just a number—you are an influential project leader. We offer the technical scale and heavy-hitting municipal contract backlog of a large corporation, combined with the nimble decision-making, supportive culture, and work-life balance of a regional firm.

The Opportunity

GMB is seeking two (2) mid-to-senior level Wastewater Engineers (5-7+ years of experience) ready to step into high-visibility project ownership and accelerate their path toward Project Management and firm leadership.

In this role, you will lead the engineering design, permitting, and client management for complex wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), pumping stations, and collection systems throughout Maryland, Delaware, and the eastern shore of Virginia. Recognizing that top talent thrives with flexibility, we offer a highly accommodating hybrid / partial-remote schedule tailored to balance collaboration in our Salisbury office with focused independent work from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Design: Lead the preparation of comprehensive engineering planning, construction plans, specifications, hydraulic modeling analysis, and cost estimates for wastewater treatment processes, pumping stations, and collection networks.
  • Permitting & Compliance: Navigate and secure regulatory approvals through the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VA DEQ), EPA, and other project specific review agencies.
  • Project Management & Leadership: Manage project scopes, schedules, and budgets. Direct and mentor junior Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and CAD designers. Proficiency related to funding agencies’ (e.g., MDE, DNREC, USDA) loan and grant applications, fund securing, and project cost and funding tracking.
  • Client & Stakeholder Relations: Serve as a primary point of contact for municipal clients, presenting technical findings at public workshops, city council meetings, and agency

What We Offer

  • Top-Tier Compensation: A highly competitive base salary up to $140,000, heavily supplemented by a performance-based bonus structure tied directly to project and firm milestones.
  • Modern Work Flexibility: True hybrid schedule flexibility blending work-from-home options with in-office collaboration in our Salisbury office.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Cafeteria Health & Welfare Plan that provides a range of health and welfare benefits for employees and their families. Available options include Medical/Prescription, Dental/Vision, Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Savings Account (HSA), Telemedicine, Dependent Care, Short-term and Long-Term Disability, an exceptional 401(k) and profit-sharing plan, a GMB-paid life insurance policy under a group-term contract with a face amount of $50,000, and generous Paid Time Off (PTO).
  • Clear Career Trainee Path: Defined trajectory toward Senior Project Manager and Associate/Principal tracks with transparent performance metrics.
  • Relocation Support: Relocation assistance package available for qualified candidates looking to experience the excellent quality of life and lower cost of living on the Eastern Shore.

Key Requirements

  • Qualifications & Skills
  • Experience: 5 to 7+ years of progressive experience specializing in civil/environmental engineering with a dedicated focus on municipal wastewater systems.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
