The Broadening Engagement in STEM Center in the Deitrich School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time Research Associate.
Responsibilities: The Research Associate will join a cross-campus team of faculty and staff focused on innovating and studying mechanisms to broaden engagement in STEM fields. BE STEM currently oversees a national research program (the STEM PUSH network) that uses improvement science to strengthen pre-college STEM programs nationally. A research associate is required to maintain current programming and assessment, assist in grant development, and contribute to university initiatives that BE STEM is developing. These studies will be under the direction of Alison Slinskey Legg and will include participation in the general scholarly activities of our research group and national network. The candidate will be expected to design interventions and programming, analyze data, and participate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts, presentations, reports, and grant proposals.
Qualifications: The qualified candidate holds a Ph.D. in an area of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with research and teaching experience. The candidate should have two or more years of experience running and analyzing improvement networks (like a networked improvement community) and be well-versed in improvement science. The successful candidate has experience developing, running, and studying pre-college STEM education programs and possesses a detailed understanding of common participation barriers that exist. In addition, the candidate has a strong publication and presentation record, is self-motivated, has effective communication skills, and works productively in an interdisciplinary team.
Environment. The Broadening Engagement in STEM Center is a highly interactive community situated on the Oakland campus of the University of Pittsburgh. The university nurtures a strong teaching community with active efforts in teaching innovation and pedagogical research. Pittsburgh is a city that is often voted "most livable" in the nation. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment that values and nurtures varied perspectives.
