Description
Swim Angelfish is seeking a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to join our team as a Recreational Therapist – Adaptive Aquatics Coordinator.
This unique role combines direct work with swimmers, adaptive aquatics, staff coaching, and program development. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children and individuals with disabilities and is excited to use their recreational therapy background in an aquatic setting.
What You’ll Do
Provide individualized adaptive swim and aquatic sessions for children and adults of varying abilities.
Assess swimmer strengths, challenges, participation barriers, and goals.
Use recreational therapy and adaptive aquatics strategies to support swimmers with autism, sensory differences, developmental disabilities, behavioral challenges, and physical disabilities.
Serve as a resource for instructors working with complex swimmers.
Observe, mentor, and coach adaptive swim instructors.
Help staff problem-solve challenging cases and identify effective teaching strategies.
Educate and collaborate with parents, caregivers, and members of a client’s care team.
Assist with staff training, program development, and quality improvement.
Help develop new adaptive aquatics programming and educational resources.
Participate in required staff training and monthly meetings with the Aquatic Manager.

Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or related qualifying field.
Active CTRS credential required.
Experience working with children and individuals with disabilities.
Experience with autism, developmental disabilities, or sensory-related needs strongly preferred.
Aquatics, adaptive recreation, or swim instruction experience preferred.
Comfortable and confident working in the water.
Strong communication, problem-solving, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 30 days.
