The City of Mt. Pleasant is seeking a highly organized and motivated professional to organize and oversee youth and adult athletic programs, leagues, and tournaments, while also supporting special events and other recreation department programming. This full-time salaried position is the heart of the City’s athletic programs and related recreation services. Responsibilities include program development, scheduling, facility coordination, registration and customer service processes, coordination of officials and volunteers, and support of special events and community programming. The position also supports marketing and outreach efforts; works collaboratively to build and maintain positive relationships with participants, volunteers, community partners, and City staff.
Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Sports Management, or a related field, and a minimum of one year’s experience in recreation programming, athletics coordination, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
The standard work schedule is Monday through Friday with flexibility needed to accommodate frequent evening and weekend hours during peak athletic seasons and special events.
Annual salary starting in the mid $50,000’s, depending on qualifications. This is a salaried exempt position.

Requirements
Education:
Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration, Sports Management, or related field and a minimum of one year’s experience in recreation programming or an equivalent combination of formal education and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge Of:
Widely accepted business software applications and ability to learn specialized software programs.
Skilled In:
Motivating, training, and developing a successful team; taking a collaborative approach to problem solving; championing new ideas; exhibiting honesty, integrity, and fairness; valuing differences to make services better while demonstrating accountability and dedication to excellence.
Ability To:
Cooperatively plan, organize, prioritize, coordinate, and evaluate multiple events and recreation activities such as sports and leisure services including athletic, cultural, social, adaptive, special events, and tournaments; assist in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality programs and services meeting the needs of the community.
Effectively plan, organize, and communicate, orally and in writing; establish and maintain positive working relationships with other employees, volunteers, civic groups, program participants, and the general public regarding any aspect within assigned scope of responsibility; make public presentations; analyze problems, identify solutions, prepare clear and concise reports, and develop sound recommendations for action; and use proven problem solving techniques to resolve issues and conflict to assure that efforts are effectively directed toward achieving the City’s goals.
Work varying hours due to evening and weekend programs and events particularly during high activity periods.
Qualify for bonding.
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver license and a safe driving record.
Must reside and maintain principal domicile within the limits of Isabella County or within 20 miles from the nearest city limit, whichever is greater, within twelve months of hire.
