Job Summary
The Project Engineer / Deputy Project Manager will support and lead transportation projects from schematic development through PS&E and construction support. This role blends technical excellence with project management, client interaction, and team leadership. You will work closely with senior leadership while mentoring junior staff and building strong relationships with key clients.
Project & Program Management
- Manage or assist in managing transportation projects within scope, schedule, and budget
- Develop scopes of work, schedules, fee proposals
- Lead schematic and PS&E development efforts and deliverables
- Monitor project performance, risks, and quality
- Serve as Quality Control Companion and lead QC efforts
Technical Leadership
- Serve as Task Lead and Deputy Project Manager on transportation projects
- Oversee roadway and miscellaneous roadway design in accordance with applicable standards
- Independently assemble PS&E plan sets and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
- Apply sound engineering judgment with attention to drainage, constructability, and safety
- Support construction phase services as needed
Client & Business Development
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with client project managers and key stakeholders
- Participate in and lead client meetings and presentations
- Support marketing, proposal development, and business development efforts
- Contribute to professional societies and industry organizations
Leadership & Mentorship
- Mentor and train interns, EITs, and junior engineers
- Delegate tasks effectively and support staff development
- Assist with recruitment and team growth initiatives
- Promote a collaborative, high-performance team culture
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- Professional Engineer License (PE)
Preferred Education & Experience
- 6+ years' experience
- Strong knowledge of relevant codes and design standards.
- TxDOT and greater Houston region municipality project experience
- Drainage analysis and design experience
- Traffic analysis and design experience
- Prior experience mentoring or supervising staff
- TxDOT pre-certifications or ability to obtain
- Active involvement in professional societies
