Successful applicants will join Princeton's Net-Zero X (NZx) initiative, which is building on the impactful Net-Zero America (NZA) study (https://netzeroamerica.princeton.edu/the-report) that developed uniquely-granular spatial, temporal, sectoral, technological, and socio-economic analyses to vividly describe at politically and societally relevant scales different energy-system transition pathways for the U.S. to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The applicant will join a Princeton team that is helping to catalyze and support researchers in other countries leading national decarbonization modeling studies inspired by the NZA study. Currently, Princeton is collaborating on NZx studies at various stages of development in Brazil, China, India, and Poland, and additional NZx studies are under discussion. Initially, the applicant's work will be primarily with the Net-Zero Brazil collaboration, and applicants should have Portuguese language ability.Individuals with a passion for interdisciplinary energy-system decarbonization studies aiming to inform policy and investment decision-making are sought. Applicants will have an engineering PhD, or equivalent degree and experience in a relevant field. Ideal applicants will have experience in energy-system transition modeling, linear and mixed integer optimization programming, energy-related techno-economic assessment, and geospatial modeling methods and tools. Applicants should have strong, demonstrated research ability, and excellent English written and spoken communication skills.Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated expertise in energy systems analysis, in the collection, processing, and integration of country-specific data for economy-wide energy system decarbonization models, in the production of spatially granular and engineering driven representations of model results. Experience working across disciplines in multi-institution and multi-stakeholder collaborations is desirable. Additionally, preference will be given to applicants with:*Domain knowledge in national energy-system studies, power systems, renewable energy grid integration, and energy-using technologies and processes in transport, buildings, and industry sectors. *Experience with managing, processing and analyzing large datasets. *Strong programming skills, particularly Julia/JuMP and/or Python.*Strong scientific writing and presentation skills, and interest in and track record of publishing in top academic journals. *Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and work effectively in highly collaborative research teams. The Andlinger Center is especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the excellence of the academic community and diversity of the curriculum, broadly defined. The term of appointment is based on rank.
