Job DescriptionThe University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Graduate Studies (SGS) invites applications for a full-time Lead Research Project Coordinator (RPC) within the Physician Assistant Leadership and Learning Academy (PALLA), part of the newly established Department of Health Professions Education and Workforce Innovation (HPEWI). This staff position offers a distinctive opportunity to advance PALLA's research portfolio, support its grant initiatives, and contribute to shaping its strategic scholarly direction. Reporting to the Executive Director of PALLA, the Lead Research Project Coordinator will independently oversee and coordinate complex research studies, workforce initiatives, and grant-related activities, ensuring strict adherence to study protocols and regulatory requirements. This role is ideally suited for an experienced and innovative professional with strong analytical expertise and a demonstrated background in research project coordination. The coordinator will exercise advanced knowledge and sound independent judgment to manage grant-funded projects, develop research protocols, support regulatory compliance, and serve as a key resource in strengthening research operations and outcomes.

PALLA, housed within the UMB School of Graduate Studies, is a statewide initiative dedicated to strengthening and expanding the physician assistant (PA) profession across Maryland. Its mission is to build faculty capacity, support clinical educators, and prepare future PA leaders to advance education, research, and policy, while promoting excellence in PA education and expanding healthcare access for all Marylanders through an inclusive learning community. The newly established Department of HPEWI provides advanced educational training for the next generation of health professions faculty. The Department of HPEWI aspires to serve as a center of excellence, empowering current and future educators to lead, innovate, and drive meaningful change in education, research, and policy-ultimately improving access to healthcare across Maryland and beyond.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Supports the principal investigator and co-investigators in seeking and implementing federal and non-federal grant funding for research studies and projects. Coordinates research project activities to ensure that the team focuses on desired outcomes and produces timely reports.
- Independently manages and coordinates complex health professions and health workforce-related research projects and grants.
- Serves as the primary liaison with internal departments, external partners, and regulatory bodies to promote effective and efficient operation and use of resources.
- Provides the highest level guidance and direction to personnel engaged in research studies or clinical trials to ensure compliance with protocols and meet clinical objectives.
- Plan, develop, administer, and coordinate research goals, workflows, policies, and procedures across the project lifecycle. Implement approved study or trial policies and procedures.
- Assist principal investigators with protocol submissions, amendments, and renewals.
- Ensure that goals and objectives specified for the research project are accomplished in accordance within priorities, time and funding limitations, or other specifications.
- Evaluate project effectiveness in order to develop and implement new or improved methods. Devise and implement evaluation methodologies.
- Oversee participant recruitment, eligibility screening, informed consent, and enrollment.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with institutional, local, state, and federal regulations; conduct quality assurance reviews.
- Develop and manage data collection, storage, tracking, analysis, and reporting processes.
- Assist in evaluating the program effectiveness in ongoing improvement.
- Prepare research documentation, IRB materials, routine and ad hoc reports.
- Coordinate project budgets, expenditures, grant applications, and resource needs.
- Provide training and guidance to less experienced personnel.
- Participate in research meetings, workshops, conferences, and planning activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing, emergency services, chemistry, biology, public health, psychology or another scientific discipline appropriate to position required. Master's degree preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years of research coordination experience with at least two (2) years in research specialization.
Other: Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.

Knowledge of position requirements . Knowledge of all applicable requirements, regulations, and laws. Skill in effective use of applicable technology/systems such as Microsoft Office Suite and software programs (e.g., SPSS, NVIVO, etc ). Ability to effectively communicate both verbal and written thoughts, ideas, and facts. Ability to work cooperatively with others and independently. Hiring Range: $69,000 - $79,000, commensurate with education and experience.
