Job Description:Primary Responsibility
The First Ascent Youth Leadership Coordinator is a seasonal temporary position needed one-two weeks a year, potential for a few hours during the year, will be responsible for planning, implementing, the program used for the annual one-week CMC First Ascent Youth Leadership Program. Working under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Affairs, the Coordinator will determine each year's program schedule and specific activities - updating the staff and student manual as needed - based on input from camp counsels, the camp facilitator and feedback from the previous year's camp participants.
During the program, the Leadership Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining the schedule and overseeing camp facilitators in their activities. This position will oversee training of all camp staff and determine the assistance of staff needed to assist in performing tasks, while monitoring/overusing for quality control.
*This is a part-time position which is limited to 28 hours per CMC's workweek. CMC's workweek is Saturday through Friday.
Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Education and experience sufficient to meet the rigors of the position. Examples may include a bachelor's degree and three-year related work experience with Education, Outdoor Studies, or Experiential Education or related field and 3 years of experience in program leadership with supervisory experience. Associate degree and five years related work experience, or High School/GED and seven years' relevant experience may be substituted for a degree in related field related work experience, or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the functions of the position. Prior graduation from a youth leadership program required, graduation from the CMC First Ascent Youth Leadership Program preferred.
Special skills or Abilities: Knowledge of running a leadership camp that inspires the learning of leadership skills and appreciation of the outdoors, for the staff and students at the camp. Turning experiences into learning, recognize effective v. ineffective methods/vehicles, provide feedback. Work directly with counselors and campers to ensure there is an enjoyable experience for all. Ability to perform vigorous physical activity in all weather conditions at high altitude (10,000'-14,000'). Ability to operate for several days with limited rest during the program.

This position requires the employee to be a resident of the State of Colorado and perform all work duties within the state.
This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
The hiring pay rate is $38.95 per hour. Benefits include retirement contribution, annual and sick time, mental health resources, and tuition benefit. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate's skill and experience. Although a hiring rate is listed, this will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
Position anticipated to close on January 30, 2026 or until filled.
Minimum Qualifications:
Essential Duties
- Help plan and deliver a one-week, experiential leadership training program for young adults.
- Review and update staff and student manuals electronically.
- Hire and train staff for camp.
- Point of contact for parents and CMC staff during the week of camp.
- Help in coordination of marking and camp promotions, in conjunction with Marketing requirements.
- Coordinate the selection of student applications and acceptance notification into program.
- Work with the Leadville campus to coordinate camper housing, food service, outdoor and classroom learning opportunities/activities.
- Conduct experiential learning facilitation effect in a variety of situations.
- Coordinate staff activities, identify and assign tasks and responsibilities.
- Supports and assistants all aspects of the First Ascent program, participate as able and appropriate in the planning of the year's programs.
- Coordinates and conducts experiential learning facilitation effectively in a variety of situations.

- Coordinate and monitor duty coverage; provide supervision, guidance, advice, and training to students as needed.

- Coordinate with the leadership coordinator as needed.
- Drive large vehicles on mountain roads.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received
This position requires minimal supervision during camp and receives guidance from and reports to the Vice President of Student Affairs.
Supervisory Responsibility
Will supervise all camp staff including student assistants, facilitation, camp counselor, other leadership coordinators and students.
Special Conditions of Employment:
Successful completion of a background check including motor vehicles records report will be required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned.
This position will require driving and a valid Colorado driver's license; and may require altered work schedules including occasional evenings and weekends.

Working Conditions
This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing, and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
