The Department of Information Culture and Data Stewardship (ICDS) faculty have focused on instruction and community-embedded research in library and information science for 124 years. The Master of Library and Information Science program, which began at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in 1901, has a long-standing international reputation of educating librarians and archivists in eight career paths and has been continuously accredited by the American Library Association since 1924. The Department also offers a Doctor of Philosophy in Library and Information Science for those seeking careers in higher education as faculty and administrators in library and information science and as researchers.
The Department Administrator is responsible for the following:
Carries out department and academic program operations and logistics; Takes minutes at department related meetings; Coordinates the admissions process for the MLIS and PhD LIS programs; Provides critical support to the department chair and must maintain absolute confidentiality; Disseminates academic information to potential and current MLIS students and PhDs. Provides advice and guidance on a limited range and variety of issues that affect department programs and policies to ICDS faculty and students; Proposes process improvement opportunities; Coordinates course schedule; faculty recruitment/promotion & tenure/retention activities; student orientation, advising, degree audits and graduation; part-time faculty hiring; Monitors program expenses, budgets, financial aid and scholarships.
Job Summary
Manages academic program operations and assists with enrollment or other similar functions for assigned college, campus, or department. Coordinates training and development for faculty and advisers and provides academic advising to assigned students. Coordinates research within the department as well as recruitment activities.

Physical Effort
Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Position requires the ability to set up for special events and meetings, lift boxes, etc. Position requires the use of a laptop computer.
