Our team combines deep expertise in data science, statistical modeling, AI/ML technologies, workflow automation, and systems integration with a practical understanding of complex business operations.The Core Banking Project Manager is responsible for overseeing core banking projects from inception to deployment.
The role is responsible for the full lifecycle of the project, using hybrid methodologies, and must ensure delivery is aligned with strategic business goals of the organisation. The role works closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact transformation projects The role combines strong technical understanding with exceptional project management skills and business acumen and requires deep domain and technical awareness to successfully navigate the system's complexity.. The Core banking PM role is centered on managing the implementation, transformation, or upgrade of the bank's central IT systems, which are critical to all operations.
As the Core Banking Project Manager, your responsibilities will include;
- Developing and managing comprehensive project plans, defining scope, objectives, deliverables, and milestones. This includes setting deadlines, managing the budget, and ensuring effective resource allocation.
- Proactively identifying potential risks and issues (RAID - Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies) specific to the banking domain (e.g., data loss, security breaches, compliance failure) and prepare detailed mitigation strategies.
- Managing communication and expectations across a diverse, complex stakeholder group, including:
- Executive Sponsors and Bank Management
- Business Analysts and End Users
- IT Teams, Architects, and Technical Leads
- External Vendors
- Monitoring and reporting project status, risks, and performance metrics to management. Ensure comprehensive documentation is maintained for auditability and governance.
- Regulatory Compliance: ensuring the project design and implementation (including data integrity, security, and process flows) adhere strictly to local and international financial regulations (e.g., AML, KYC, FATCA, Basel III).
- Coordinating the complex process of data migration, ensuring data integrity and zero information loss during the transition.
- Establish clear migration pathways and contingency plans to prevent service disruptions.
- Manage the interfaces and system integration with surrounding applications (e.g., wealth management, loan systems, digital channels).
- Manage the relationship and contracts with the Core Banking System vendor, tracking their tasks, deliverables, and commitment to the project's success.
- An understanding of the banking IT world, system design, databases (SQL), and API management (REST, SOAP) to effectively liaise with technical leads and investigate system logs or queries when necessary.
Requirements
As the Core Banking Project Manager, we need you to be;
- Proficient in project management methodologies like Agile, Scrum, PMP, or PRINCE II.
- Significant demonstrable experience working within financial services
As well as having;
- Experience managing large teams through Change.
- Experience preventing data mapping errors and maintaining data quality across historical and customer data.
- Significant demonstrable experience managing and controlling changes to the project's scope, as mid-project changes can severely impact budget and timelines.
- Strong leadership to guide cross-functional teams (IT, Legal, Operations, Business) and clear, frequent communication to senior stakeholders.
- A solid knowledge of banking products, processes, and the strategic rationale for the core banking change.
- The ability to identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues in a high-stakes environment, and make quick, informed decisions to maintain business continuity.
- Knowledge and understanding of how core banking transactions are performed
- Understanding and experience of working within the SDLC framework
