Description
Camp Schodack is seeking an experienced, energetic, and highly organized candidate with summer camp experience to serve as our Athletics & Activities Coordinator. This role is ideal for individuals with strong athletics and youth leadership backgrounds, including camp professionals, PE teachers, coaches, and others with experience leading sports and activity-based programs. This is a senior leadership role and a key member of the summer Head Staff team. The Athletics & Activities Coordinator oversees all athletic and activity programming at camp, ensuring a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experience for campers while supporting and supervising the staff who lead these areas.
Camp Schodack operates on a model that blends structure and camper choice. Activities run on a weekly schedule distributed in advance, and this role is responsible for ensuring that all athletic and specialty areas operate smoothly within that framework.
Core Responsibilities
Provide strategic oversight of all camp athletics and activities, including team sports, individual sports, and specialty programs.
Supervise and support two direct supervisors and oversee all specialists and counselors who run athletic and activity areas.
Ensure all programs are safe, well-run, inclusive, and aligned with Camp Schodack’s philosophy and standards.
Support skill development across a wide range of camper abilities, with particular attention to providing appropriate challenge and competitive opportunities for more athletically inclined campers.
Observe activities regularly, provide coaching and feedback to staff, and ensure consistent quality across all program areas.
Organize and manage intercamp games for various age groups and in a variety of sports
Oversea Ultra Leagues, Camp Schodack's more competitive team sports league.
Confirming equipment is in safe working order and coordinating equipment needs with the Assistant Director.
Collaborate closely with the Assistant Directors, Activity Counselor Supervisors, Division Heads, and other Head Staff to support overall camp operations.
Serve as a visible, engaged leader who models professionalism, enthusiasm, and care for campers and staff.
Requirements
Qualifications & Preferred Background
Previous summer camp experience is required.
Experience as a PE teacher, coach, athletic director, or in a school- or community-based sports program is a strong plus and encouraged to apply.
Experience supervising staff and managing multiple program areas or departments.
Strong supervisory, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to balance structure, flexibility, and camper choice in a dynamic camp environment.
Commitment to camper safety, staff development, and positive youth development.
Compensation & Dates
Dates: June 2026 - August 21, 2026 (flexible start date for the right candidate)
Seasonal Salary: $9,000
Free tuition for director child(ren) (aged 7-14)
