JOB TITLE: Athlete Development Coordinator
PAY SCALE: Commensurate with Experience and Qualifications
LOCATION: Holland Middle School and Holland High School
EMPLOYMENT TERM: 2025-2026 (Full Year)
REPORTS TO: Athletic Director and Building Principal
Position Summary:
The Athletic Development Specialist is responsible for leading a comprehensive, vertically aligned 6–12 athlete development program that supports athlete development and injury prevention. This role designs and implements strength and conditioning systems for middle and high school student-athletes, leads summer sports performance programs and camps, and collaborates with coaches to align training with team goals in-season and out-of-season. In partnership with the Athletic Director and community youth programs, this position will collaborate to strengthen the athletic pipeline while also supporting athletic department operations, including event management, supervision, and select athletic director duties, contributing to a cohesive, well-organized, and high-performing athletic program.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Performance, Physical Education, or related field required
Current Strength & Conditioning certification (CSCS, SCCC, or equivalent) required
CPR/AED and First Aid certification required
Experience:
Experience designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs for middle and/or high school athletes
Demonstrated success working within a school-based athletic program
Experience leading off-season training, summer sports performance, or athletic camps
Experience collaborating with coaches across multiple sports
Experience supporting athletic event management or athletic department operations preferred
Experience building partnerships with youth or community athletic programs preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of long-term athlete development models
Ability to design age-appropriate programming for grades 6–12
Understanding of injury prevention, mobility, speed, agility, and sport performance principles
Ability to increase student participation through strategic communication and program promotion
Strong organizational and event management skills
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with students, staff, families, and community partners
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and summers
Primary Responsibilities for Athlete Development Specialist:
Athlete Development (Primary Focus)
Design and implement a vertically aligned 6-12 strength and conditioning program
Lead in-season, off-season, and summer sports performance sessions
Develop sport-specific and multi-sport training plans that support long-term athlete development
Emphasize injury prevention, mobility, recovery, and overall athletic durability
Monitor athlete progress and adjust programming based on performance data and individual needs
Educate student-athletes on strength training, performance habits, nutrition, and wellness practices
Build a culture of safe, consistent training and long-term athletic development
Program Participation Growth & Promotion
Expand access to strength and conditioning opportunities for middle and high school student-athletes
Design inclusive training opportunities that support both multi-sport and single-sport athletes
Promote training opportunities through clear communication and collaboration with coaches and families
Lead and coordinate summer sports performance programs and camps
Collaboration & Community Engagement
Work with the Athletic Director to ensure the athlete development program supports the overall vision for athletics
Collaborate with middle and high school coaches to align development goals
Support youth development opportunities that introduce younger students to strength, conditioning, and athletic preparation
Support youth camps, clinics, and community outreach efforts
Athletic Department Support
Assist with event management and game-day operations
Provide supervision at events as assigned
Support scheduling, facilities coordination, and program organization
Assist with compliance and operational duties as needed
Working Conditions:
This position is primarily school-based and operates in middle and high school facilities, including weight rooms, gyms, athletic fields, and event venues. The role requires regular physical activity such as demonstrating exercises, spotting athletes, lifting equipment, prolonged standing, and independent mobility, including climbing stairs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The position also involves frequent telephone and computer use, requiring manual dexterity for writing and data entry, as well as periods of extended sitting for planning and event coordination. Flexible hours are required, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and summer programming, with moderate travel by automobile. The work environment can be fast-paced and occasionally stressful during athletic seasons and events.
