- Assistant Section Supervisor
Description
Camp Sewataro is seeking a warm, organized, and developmentally skilled leader to serve as the Assistant Fox Section Supervisor. This role is ideal for an experienced camp professional who loves working with young children, supporting counselors, and helping ensure that our youngest campers thrive in a safe, joyful, and well-supported environment.
The Fox Section includes approximately 10 camp groups, each made up of about 15 campers and a team of 3 counselors. The Assistant Fox Section Supervisor plays an essential leadership role in helping these groups run smoothly each day while providing guidance, structure, and encouragement to both campers and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Section Leadership
Support the safe and smooth daily operation of all Fox groups
Help manage morning attendance and group transitions
Provide active supervision during high-need moments such as lunch, water breaks, and end-of-day routines
Check in regularly with group staff to ensure campers are supported and engaged
Counselor Support and Mentorship
Advise, motivate, and provide feedback to counselors working with young campers
Model positive community-building, behavior guidance, and conflict resolution techniques
Support co-counselor team dynamics and help troubleshoot staff challenges when needed
Assist with counselor evaluations and section-wide staff development
Camper Support and Behavior Guidance
Assist staff in managing repeated or significant behavioral concerns using developmentally appropriate strategies
Collaborate with the Community Support Team to plan for campers with individual needs or medical concerns
Help counselors create positive behavior incentive plans when appropriate
Section Community and Camp Spirit
Help foster a kind, fun, and inclusive section culture rooted in Sewataro values
Support section meetings throughout the summer to address concerns and re-motivate staff
Special Events and Overdays
Support Friday Special Events and assist with planning age-appropriate Fox programming
Help coordinate Fox Overdays in collaboration with section leadership and the Events Coordinator
Physical Expectations
This is an active outdoor leadership role requiring sustained standing, walking, and running throughout the camp day on varied terrain.
Requirements
Required Certification
Current CPR certification
Camp Sewataro will cover the cost of CPR certification for hired candidates who do not currently hold it.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching certification or early childhood experience
Strong understanding of Kindergarten and 1st grade developmental needs
Experience in classroom, camp, or group management settings
Experience Requirements
At least 2 years of experience on a summer camp staff team or in a similar youth leadership role
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Natural initiative and ability to support the “big picture” operations of a busy camp day
