- Aquatics Supervisor
Description
Under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Aquatics Supervisor will perform professional planning, organizing, and administration of recreation programs for the Indoor and Outdoor Aquatics areas. This position will provide exemplary customer service to the employees and citizens of the City of Fruita.
- Develop and implement aquatics guidelines, safety policies and procedures, administrative policies and Emergency Action Plans
- Supervise, schedule, and evaluate the work of all aquatic staff
- Train and certify staff in the responsibilities of their position classifications. Ensure staff are competent in all skills related to their job duties through in-service training.
- Monitor and oversee programs in Aquatics. Programs may include but are not limited to:
- Water Safety/Swim Lessons
- Water Aerobics
- Therapy Programs
- Lap Swim/Open Swim
- Swim Team
- Special Events
- Fruita Gators Swim Team
- Conduct periodic need assessment of programs as well as evaluations of existing programs.
- Ensure program information for departmental website and activity guide. Ensure all information is shared within proper channels.
- Administer budgets for aquatics programs
- Recommend fees and charges for programs
- Ensure the collection of fees, record keeping, and reports
- Input program information into recreation management software system
- Work with Parks and Recreation Director to set and oversee aquatics schedule and facility usage.
- Screen, interview, and select part-time, full-time, and seasonal staff
- Maintain personnel records including annual reviews for full and part-time staff.
- Coordinate with all external contractors by keeping records on insurance and contracts.
- Develop and implement aquatic maintenance procedures and policies.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations related to the repair, maintenance, and modification of equipment not only in the mechanical room as well as in and around all aquatic areas and features.
- Act as Pool Manager or lifeguard and teach swimming lessons and water aerobics as needed.
- Purchase aquatics equipment and supplies.
- Inspect facilities and equipment. Ensure conditions are proper for safe and efficient use. Maintain safety reports.
- Check and record chemical levels, monitor and maintain filtration equipment, maintain water quality and meet health standards.
- Ensure proper record keeping, reporting, inputting program information into Sportsman Recreation Software systems, and retention of records.
- Maintain knowledge of trends within recreation by attending conferences and training classes.
- Act as a generalist within the department. This includes but is not limited to:
- Assist other departmental and City staff with events and activities.
- Respond to the public and other City staff with information about programs and services provided by the department
- May be required to act as a lifeguard or water safety instructor when needed
- Foster teamwork amongst full and part time staff.
Requirements
Completion of a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university with major course work in Recreation Administration or closely related field. Minimum of four (4) years previous experience in a related position and previous experience working in the aquatics field. Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid, Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor. Aquatic Facility Operator/Certified Pool Operator certification or must have the ability to be certified within 6 months of hire date. Water Safety Instructor Trainer & Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification preferred
