Department Overview
The duties of this position are in support of the mission and goals of Cascade Life Alliance (CLA). The Administrator on Call (AOC)/Clinical Resource Coordinator (CRC) utilizes healthcare knowledge, expertise, independent industry specific judgement and medical protocols to coordinate all aspects of organ donation for transplant and research in the Donor Service Area (DSA) hospitals in Oregon, southern Washington, and southwest Idaho, as well as serves in a leadership role to their peers. The AOC/CRC directs clinical staff and provides comprehensive oversight in organ donation operations across the DSA. Additionally, the AOC/CRC may serve in the role of Organ Donation Coordinator (ODC) for up to half of their call shifts. In this role, they function to assesses and evaluate potential organ donors, communicate with donor families, direct clinical management of the organ donor, evaluate and place organs for transplant, coordinate the organ recovery process with transplant and medical teams, and assist those teams with the surgical recovery and transportation of organs for transplant and research. The AOC/CRC is also involved with process development roles in alignment with organizational needs and goals, including clinical orientation, data review, donor management development, and special projects.Function/Duties of Position
- Performs duties as (AOC)/(CRC) serving in an on-call capacity providing consistent, comprehensive oversight of all organ donation operations including, but not limited to, donor referral, triage, authorization, management, organ allocation, and recovery. Responsible for providing plan of care guidance and ensures case activity proceeds in an effective and efficient manner.
- Performs duties as ODC: uses independent judgment and established parameters to screen for potential organ, tissue, and eye donation in all DSA hospitals; obtain consent for donation; communicates with donor families, hospital staff and transplant teams; conducts donor management in ICU; places organs for transplant and assist with organ recovery; completes required donor follow up.
- Participates and leads process development projects that are in alignment with the organization's mission, as well as other projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's of Science Degree with healthcare related focus or equivalent experience.
- American Board for Transplant Certification CPTC credential.
- 2 years organ donation coordinator experience.
- 4 years clinical experience
- Must have a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle.
- Extensive clinical healthcare knowledge base, with the ability to exercise sound clinical judgement quickly and independently in an often-stressful environment.
- Excellent communication skills, flexible, highly motivated, a good team member with a positive attitude.
- Must be able to work in an adaptive fashion with a wide range of professional and nonprofessional constituents including but not limited to governmental officials, students, healthcare staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous AOC/CRC experience.
- Extensive successful advanced practice experience as an ODC in accredited OPO (Organ Procurement Organization).
Additional Details
The AOC/CRC will manage and assist in organ recovery, allocation, preservation, and follow-up of donated organs. The AOC/CRC is on clinical call for 24 hour periods, must travel by charter and commercial aircraft, conduct donor management in ICUs, screen for potential organ, tissue, and eye donations, obtain consent for donation, communicates with donor families, and assist with organ recovery. Marketing and education responsibilities include: hospital assessments, develop organ donation protocols,and provide education to hospital staff for the purpose of increasing organ donations.
